Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is currently undergoing an extensive $150 million repair and renovation project to enhance and preserve this historic Big Island Kohala Coast hotel for generations of guests to come. Re-opening is planned for December 2008 and we hope to start taking reservations in the Summer.
The Mauna Kea's room inventory will be reduced from 310 to 258, as rooms in the south-end of the main building will be reconfigured to have more spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. All rooms will be redesigned in a style that is contemporary yet evocative of Big Island tradition. While this luxury hotel's interiors are being redecorated, no changes will be made to its classic exterior architectural design. In February 2007, the American Institute of Architects recognized Mauna Kea as one of the 150 best works of architecture nationwide.
In the meantime, we have other great Prince properties in the Islands, including Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, just south of the Mauna Kea, overlooking one of Hawaii's very best beaches, the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki on Oahu and the Maui Prince Hotel, Makena Resort on Maui.
