Oahu is only the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands, but it is home to almost 80% of the state's population. While Honolulu is the capital city and center of Pacific Rim business activity, the nightlife and world-class shopping revolves around the Waikiki area with its award-winning restaurants, oceanfront hotels and designer shops.
Away from the city, Oahu is an island of magnificent panoramas, ringed with white sand beaches and capped by towering volcanic peaks. Just across the Ko'olaus from Honolulu, the green cliffs of the windward coast are magnificent, lined with safe, secluded beaches and indented with remote time-forgotten valleys. And one can only marvel at the winter waves that make the North Shore the world's premier surfing destination.
